We will start this page with a flashback to our trip to Italy. At the Boston airport we had decided to get in the mood of Italy by having some pizza.
Jump forward a month later. The morning we left, we said goodbye to our fabulous hosts. Doni brought us and our suitcases to our car, and sent us off with sandwiches. The food was great to have while waiting at the Ancona airport while waiting for our flight to Germany.
During the flight we looked out the window and said, "We were there this trip!" as we looked down at Venice.
Then we flew over the impressive Dolomite mountains.
Because of the timing of the flights, we spent the night at the Munich airport. Since we went out of security, we feel that we can claim to have been to Germany! We did not go into the city of Munich because the subway was down, and taxis were was cost prohibitive. First we checked into the hotel. The room was nice, with effective light blocking curtains and nightlights that lit up if we got up during the night.
The hotel had a large atrium with a tropical theme bar.
Being in Germany, we of course drank some beers. Anne had a Hofbräu Weißbier (a wheat beer) and Paul got a Redeberger Pils. Both were very good.
We had dinner at a brew pub restaurant that was at the airport, airbrau. Reservations are recommended (and fortunately we had them) because they were busy.
Our beers with our meal were a Kumulus Wheat Beer for Anne and a 1918 Revolutionary Lager for Paul, both by the airbrau brewery. The hotel wheat beer was actually a bit better, and this lager was a bit better than the pilsner at the hotel, but we were definitely not complaining about any of them.
Paul selected a veggie burger for his meal, and Anne went with a stuffed potato.
Anne really wanted to get some pretzels as well. That was dessert.
Munich airport has a substantial section that is outside of security. In the central square a Christmas market was in the process of being set up. (We were there on November 6th.)
After a bit of a walk we went back to the hotel for the night.
The following morning we had breakfast at the hotel. Oatmeal and an egg for Anne; waffles for Paul.
It was a wonderful trip. We were happy to be back home, though.
