Boothbay Harbor Vacation, 2024

This year our Boothbay Harbor vacation at Topside Inn had a little twist. We typically stay in the main house of the inn but they were remodeling our room and, as is typical of projects, it went longer than expected. So instead they suggested we stay in their 'carriage house', which is a separate building across their lawn. Here is the route from the carriage house to the main house (which is where breakfast is served).

Looking across a lawn with white Adirondak chairs. On the other side of the lawn are some tan buildings that are the inn.

A close-up of the cute bird watcher sculpture that is on the lawn:

A metal sculpture of an extremely thin person with spikey hair looking through binoculars. There is a bird sitting on the binoculars.

Here is the entrance to the Carriage House, taken in the evening. The room is on the top floor; the area below (their personal garage) is not part of the room.

A tan building with a door on the second floor that has a landing and stairway. The light is on outside of the door. The sky is dark blue, and a tree is on the left.

The top of the Carriage House has a pretty cupola.

A white cupola with a dark room, above which is a whale weathervane.

The inside of the Carriage House is more spacious than a room in the main inn, and made it very easy to sit down and enjoy a fire in the fireplace while looking at pictures on our laptop. This is the living room area:

Looking out from behind a counter with some muffins and fruit, there is seating around a glass coffee table and a gas fire in a dividing wall on the left. In the far right corner is a small dining table.

This picture was taken from the far corner of the room with a wide lens. You can see the living area as well as the sleeping area. There is a section for storing clothing on the right, and a kitchenette area on the left. The bathroom is hidden by the divider.

Wide angle view of the room, with the living area on the left and the sleeping area on the right.

We felt welcomed from the moment we walked in.

A bed with a white blanket. On the bed is a piece of paper with a printed note, 3 chocolates, and a key. There is a painting of the sea on the wall.

Walking back and forth from the inn gave us more opportunities than usual to appreciate the view of the harbor that is available from the large lawn of the inn. On the left side of this picture, through the tree, you can see the top portion of our cozy little Carriage House. The land has already started descending towards the water.

Standing on a green lawn that has white chairs, the harbor can se seen past some houses that are lower on the hill. There is a bit of fog above the islands.

This picture, zoomed in from the other side of the harbor, shows where the inn and the carriage house are located. The buildings in the foreground belong to the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard.

On the other side of some water, a hill rises with various houses on it. The main building of the inn is on the left, and the Carriage House is on the right.

Breakfasts were back in the main house. The entrance area has a lovely large table that has various selections for breakfast. The eggs are from their own chickens, and were available every day in addition to the featured entree.

A close-up of the table after more food has been put on it. There is fruit, little souffles, sausage, and whole eggs in a glass bowl.

Buzz and Mark are the inn keepers.

Two men are wearing aprons in the area of the inn with the food table.

Those are not piles of ice cream behind Buzz. Those are flavored butters that they make at the inn.

A sign says House-made flavored & whipped butters. Behind the sign are 3 large mounds of whipped butter in stoneware containers.

When breakfast is a savory item, there is some type of baked goods to accompany it. Some examples are baked cinnamon donuts, blueberry lemon bread, and blueberry muffins. (We have many pictures of breakfasts on previous year's BBH trip reports, if you are interested in seeing them.)

The donuts, arranged on a white cake stand.

Slices of blueberry bread with a lemon glaze, arranged on the white stand.

9 blueberry muffins, each in its own decorative paper sleeve.

Here we are at breakfast one morning.

Anne and Paul are sitting at a table with plates of waffles in front of them.

Here is another view of the inn, this time in the evening.

The main building of the inn, viewed from the lawn. The sun is setting behind the inn and the sky has a cloud cover.

The inn has a pretty little bar where drinks of various types are available. This year they had a Kentucky Derby party with trivia questions; we knew some of the answers.

A drink with a sprig of mint is on the left, and a glass of wine is on the right. Two menus are on the table behind the drinks.
