Anne added an extension tube to her photography equipment. This is a simple hollow tube that goes between the lens and the camera, which allows larger-than-life pictures to be taken. Combined with the 105mm macro lens and a cooperative subject, it is possible to get a good view of small things! Case in point: this hoverfly.

Although this picture wasn't actually taken at home, it also shows the detail that can be seen using a macro lens, the extension tube, and focus stacking. This picture is actually a composite of about 75 different pictures, each with a different thin slice of the shell in focus.
