As you may or may not know, in 2019 we put a deposit down for a Tesla Cybertruck. Or as we like to call it, a battery on wheels. We already have battery backup, which consists of two Powerwall batteries sitting in the basement. If we lose commercial power, the house switches to those batteries. At some point (it is not available yet) the truck can act as a larger battery backup for the house. Instead of needing a generator, the truck will power the house and for a long outage we would drive to a place with power and refill the battery. Plus it provides us a pickup truck. Our previous truck died a year ago.
Here are some pictures of the truck, which we got in September 2024. First some pics at the dealership when we picked it up. We were concerned that it would be difficult to get in and out of, but the truck lowers itself to 'entry height' when parked, which makes it very easy.
With the truck at home and keeping the Prius company.
We do not have a wall charger yet, so we have to use a 'mobile charger' plugged into a 20 amp outlet. This is much slower than it will be once we have the wall charger installed.
As with most modern vehicles, it has blind spot warning. With the little camera above the wheel, a view of the side can be displayed on a monitor in the truck.
The truck is not painted silver. The exterior is stainless steel with no paint. It can take on the colors around it with reflections, though.
We hope that the truck will be a useful tool for us for many years.
