Liz's Baby Shower

continued from

Sunday was a lovely day, so Diane and I took advantage of this and walked up to the Central Park Conservatory Garden.  I think that this must have been the peak week for the blossoms in the park.   The trees were gorgeous and full.

Both tulips and daffodils were in bloom at the same time.

New York City is attractive with the Spring blossoms.

A picture of Diane and one of Anne:

Diane had run all over the city on Saturday, and one of the tasks was to get flowers.  Unfortunately, the blue hydrangeas were not looking particularly fresh on Sunday morning.  So our walk had a mission in addition to visiting the park ... finding suitable replacements.   We passed a building that had some lovely hydrangeas planted in the window ... Diane was wondering if they would miss a few.  Luckily, she resisted finding out.

We did find some suitable blue hydrangeas at a little Korean market.  We would have liked to get a couple plants, but they were well past their prime and he didn't have any others.  Diane negotiated a "5 for the price of 4" deal for cut blossoms, and the market owner even gave us a couple cuts of the nicer blossoms from the expiring plants!  So after assembling the flowers, Frank flagged us a cab and we went and brought the flowers down to Sara Beth's, where the shower was going to be.   The brunch line for Sara Beth's was not only out the door, it was down the street.  Personally, I'd rather eat brunch at home.

From there, we walked to get balloons. Have I mentioned that I've been to Carnegie Hall?

(okay, bad joke.)  The balloons were at Lee's Art Shop.  They were filling a large order when we got there, so we had a little time to look around.  The store has art supplies, and party supplies, but in addition it has some home decor items - mostly lighting, chairs, and tables.  I felt like I was at MOMA, looking at the section where they have stylized everyday items.

First, a cute pug from the party supply section.  (Yeah, I know, I didn't get the focus right.  This is with the point & shoot camera, after all.)

We brought the balloons back to Sara Beth's, and then walked through the park for some of the way back.  We went by the zoo (see the seal) ...

and we were at Delcorte Clock at noon.

(link to video I took) (Diane says this is not one of the better tunes.  It is 5 past noon by the time I took the video.)

Not too long after we got back, Regis and Donna arrived.  I think I only have one picture with Regis in it ...

and one with Frank in it.  (Love that sweater he has on.)
